Now, assuming you looked at the picture or watched the video, you know the parts of the light microscope. If you haven't then you need to go and look at one!
Now, on to the fun part: USING the light microscope. First make sure the microscope is on a stable surface and that the cord is plugged into a socket. Then, lower the stage as far down as it will go with the course adjustment knob (CAK).

Next, make sure the objective lens you will be looking through is on the LOWEST setting. This is very important if you want to find your specimen and not end up looking at the side of the slide. After this, take your slide and place it under the objective lens with your specimen directly under the lens (so you can SEE it) and then clip the stage clips on it. Time for the party! Put your left eye up to the eyepiece (KEEP YOUR RIGHT EYE OPEN unless you like headaches). Then, move stage up with the CAK until it's as clear as it can be. If it's a little blurry, then adjust the fine adjustment knob (FAK) until it's crystal clear! Once you've grown bored with this magnification, move to the next one, repeating the same adjustment instructions. But, do NOT go to the highest setting or the microscope police will find you! Not really, but it will hurt the slide.
