This is my lab experience for your own personal viewing.
In class as we were setting up the microscopes, I followed the same instructions that were mentioned on the HOW TO USE A MICROSCOPE page. To set up my wet mount slide, I also followed the instructions on the MAKING A WET MOUNT page. However, I found it easier to place the cover slip on the slide with my fingers holding the edges then when using the forceps. Looking at the onion, it did in fact look like little cells with walls and everything! Crazy! Then came the cheek cells and I will admit, I was nervous thinking that I would have to cut off a part of my cheek. However, I just used a toothpick and ran it along the cheek and voila, instant cheek cells! To prepare the wet mount, I followed all the steps but I added Lugol's Iodine on the slide to make the cells show up. After putting them under the microscope, it helped me to put the light on low to find them. After, when I moved from 4X to 40X magnification, I also observed them through the 10X just to make sure I could find them. When all was said and done, I turned the Objective Turrets to 4X, lowered the stage, removed the slide, turned off the light, and unplugged my microscope. Then, I washed my slide off with soap and water and put it away. The most exciting thing however, was putting the cover on the microscope. Talk about nail biting excitement! Then, I placed my microscope on the cart and my lab was over. |
